About Us
Inception of the IFWEM
As a result of interactions with fieldwork educators, students, personal observation and research, Drs. Hanner and Crawford identified the need for a model that could be used to guide the fieldwork educator throughout the fieldwork education process. The goal of the developers was to provide a model that was easy to access, evidence-based, grounded in theory, and focused on intentional teaching. Research outcomes indicated that the model positively impacted fieldwork effectiveness in their role as an educator and resulted in enhanced student learning outcomes.
Meet the Creators
IFWEM Creator
Joy Crawford, OTD, MSRS, OTR/L"
Joy has been practicing occupational therapy for 30 years. Her current roles include Doctoral Capstone Coordinator and Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. Other positions held include OTA program director, Director of Rehabilitation, Staff OT, and Contributing Faculty at the University of St. Augustine.
Joy earned a Doctoral Degree in OT from the University of St. Augustine, a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Science OT degree from the Medical University of S.C., a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from the Medical University of S.C., and an Associate of Arts degree from the Community College of Baltimore County. Scholarly activities include textbook chapter author, textbook reviewer, article co-author, and conference presenter.
IFWEM Creator
Nadine Hanner, OTD, MSOT, OTR/L
Nadine has been practicing occupational therapy for over 26 years. Currently, she holds the position of OT Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. She has also held positions as a clinician, OTA Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, OTA Program Director, and private practice owner and manager.
Nadine earned a Doctoral Degree in OT from the University of St. Augustine, a Master of Science in OT from Belmont University, and an Associate of Science degree from Trident Technical College. Her scholarly activities include co-authoring textbook chapters, co-authoring articles, and presenting at state and national conferences.
